Different Angle

On Memorial Day, I spent the day at the National Mall remembering all the fallen and taking pictures.

Here is a pic I snapped of the Washington Monument.  I wanted to capture it at an irregular angle.  After applying some filters, I was pleased with the result above.

Storm Gems

I’m not sure if I’ve shared this before, but I’m a storm lover, fanatic, stalker, etc.  When a storm is brewing, I feel compelled to snap as many good shots as possible before the gates open!

They intrigue me with their raw beauty and power.  When I was a wee lass, they used to frighten me a bit, but excitement was mixed with that fear because I wanted to understand them.  As an adult, I equally understand and respect them.

The photos below are what I captured last week after a major storm had dumped torrential rain on the area.  It was the tail end of it, yet the beauty was stunning!

Good Week with a PR

The past week has been great in terms of spending Memorial Day with good people and getting a lot of physical activity in.

Despite some knee swelling, I earned myself a PR that wasn’t expected.  Overall, I’m happy with the results.

May go for a long tomorrow.

Reality Check

My 16 year old daughter and I have always spent time together shopping, eating out, going to the movies, etc. for “Mother-Daughter” days.

Well, today started as one of those days until we went in different directions and she went on one of her longest journeys away from home alone.  If she weren’t a responsible and honest teen, it would have been out of the question.  My husband and I trusted her judgement enough to allow it.

That’s not to say I was calm inside.  Ha!  I was on pins and needles until she came home, although maintaining contact with her via phone was somewhat of a solace.  I knew these days would come too quickly when she was a small child and I have learned to accept that.  However, deep down, there is a part of me that never wants to let her go.  The same goes for my son, who at 19 months of age, exudes a fierce sense of independence.

She amazes me every day and I’m so proud of the young woman she has become,

They both will always be my babies!

I Love Food. Period.

Celebrating my birthday always involves eating, drinking, and doing whatever comes to mind.

Since I love eating sushi, calamari, and drinking sake, I imbibed and enjoyed some delicious Japanese cuisine.  The fish eggs made a great addition.

The rest of the festivities will continue tomorrow with a run and beer reward.  😉

What a Walk!

My speed has fully returned.  It’s been some time since I ‘ve been able to accomplish this.

I look forward to increasing my walking and running speeds soon.

Hi, Again!

It’s been quite some time since I’ve posted anything.  To begin, I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year and holiday season.  Things have been busy on my end, including my little 17 month old tyrant and my daughter turning 16.  🙂

Last night, I announced to my husband and daughter that I want to try to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Marathon Trials.  They’re both very supportive and understand what this means for all of us.  Loads of time training, most of my free time spent pounding the pavement, and lots of pain on my end.  The last time I trained for and finished a marathon was in 2011.  I will be 38 next month and I’m still active.  I’m ready for the challenge and will train hard to reach my goal.  Even if I don’t qualify, the journey itself promises to be amazing.

Still working on this and I have to say I like how it is coming along.

Time Really Does Fly!

Just yesterday this little guy was born!

Not really, but that is how it feels to me.  At 8.5 months old, he stands on his own for up to a minute and sometimes takes a couple steps when he feels very energetic.

We enjoy watching him develop and grow.  This picture shows how much he has grown since birth and has become my favorite capture of him to date.

Did I mention his messy “feeding myself” sessions are as hilarious as his sister’s were?  🙂

It finally happened…Cory cut his first tooth and he’s been handling it like a little trooper!  I’m a very proud mommy.
